Day 13. Frid. 1st Feb. 13. Batu Pahat.Dist. 94.1 miles.

Very tired but in good spirits as we set out on our 2nd last day. Yesterday, the two Dubai boys (from Edinburgh) and Mark did 41 kms per hour in 41* C. , they suffer at a different level. So today they cycled part of the morning with the slower group, pacing us and protecting us from the wind.So kind. Afterwards cycled mostly with Sue, Phil, Tarcia, Martin and Mark and stopped at Chinese restaurant for fantastic lunch. Had noodles, sweet and sour and seafood rice.  Pace was fast in the heat, 41.1*C, about 16mph but meant we were in by 5.00pm. Saw a troop of monkeys playing in the trees .  We came upon a huge bicycle with sidecar at the side of road, either art or advertising, not sure. Mark struggled to climb up it, very hot, and pretended to ride it, great photo opportunity.

Malaysia has a huge Chinese influence. Love the way they cook food, huge woks, all fresh cooked to order. The smallest restaurant churns out fantastic meals, a meal with soft drink costs about 2 pounds. So cheap. Thank you for all e mails and comments, still can't reply but will when I get home. I know some of you have seen photos on Marks Twitter page. Last day tomorrow, my body is telling me enough is enough but as usual I want to continue cycling into the sunset. Tomorrow Singapore and party time.

Day 12. Thurs 31st Jan 13.Kuala LinggiDist. 107.1 miles.

A cruel day today with temp 41*C travelling down the west coast of Malaysia. A hilly terrain made the going even harder, the heat just drains you of all energy. Cycled with Sue and Mark in the morning, then Brian and Phil in the afternoon. Phil is the owner of Kukri and has joined us for the last 3 days. Lovely to see the sea again. We are staying at a Motel right on the beach tonight. Just had a BBQ, under palm trees, with the waves lapping in. Bliss.  Malay people are friendly, giggle a lot when we speak to them. The trip has been a massive challenge, I have coped very well, but we are all beginning to show signs of exhaustion. We arrive absolutely drenched with sweat, underwear, top, shorts and socks.  At the end of the day we are all whacked but come morning somehow have recovered. Forgot to say, this morning as we were leaving Mark placed his bike on the ground while he fetched something. A car ran over it, managed to stop it before back wheels went over too. His brake lever is twisted but bike still rideable. Very lucky, he could have been in the truck for the rest of the trip. So tired, but still having a great time.
