Globe Trotting Again On 'Spike the Bike'

Winter Training Arrran  Dec 2012

Well, it was not my intention and I can't justify it so soon after 'Cycle America' but I am off on another cycle trip. This time, in January 2013, I am heading for S E Asia.  I am constantly interested in the 'cycling world' and currently there are plenty of professional cyclists and events to follow.  I noticed an advert for 'The Bangkok to Singapore Cycle.' I was instantly interested but dismissed it 'as too soon after America' ........but it wouldn't go away. I kept re-reading the itinery and the more I enquired the more hooked I became.... again.  I tried to talk myself out of it, the cost, another winter of training, which was gruelling last year, to no avail, I knew I wanted to take part.  The trip is organised by Kukri Events, one of the companies that sponsor Mark Beaumont. The route follows the one taken by Mark on his record breaking world cycle and he is joining and cycling with us for the second week.   So far 14 people have signed up,  we leave Bangkok cycling south down the east coast of Thailand, cross the border, cycling south through west coast Malaysia, finally arriving in Singapore beginning of February.  The trip lasts 14 days over a distance of 1200 miles,  85 miles plus per day.  Compared  to America the route looks more flat, no taking a turn at cooking, only a couple of nights camping and we have a physiotherapist travelling with us.  Luxury, bliss.  Take a look at the web page on the right for more details.
